Thanks to the dedicated efforts of NEHFES President Nancy R. Savin and Vice President & Treasurer John Lieberman, and with the approval of our Board, NEHFES finally secured a permit from the Connecticut Department of Transportation to perform masonry repairs to the Creamery Foundation. Derek Pepin, of Derek Pepin Stone Masonry, who rehabilitated the synagogue foundation and made significant repairs, including steel bracing, to the mikveh/community house this past summer, will begin work in January, weather permitting.
We are truly grateful to the A. I. Savin Family Fund of the Hartford Foundation and descendant Blanche Savin Goldenberg for jumpstarting this long-awaited project! Because of the unusual expenses estimated, we can only do 50% of the necessary repair work, but plan to figure out how to do it all, including the installation of either steel or wooden cribbing to further protect the foundation from decay.
